Treatment Information

OTP – Methadone and Buprenorphine

Stepping Stone is a medically-assisted opiate addiction treatment program. This means we help those who are addicted to opiates such as heroin, morphine, Oxycontin, oxycodone, and other prescription painkillers through a combination of medication and counseling.

During admission, you will meet with a counselor to discuss your addiction history, followed by a physical and lab work. If you are accepted into treatment, the doctor will help you determine which medication is right for you. We use methadone and buprenorphine, two medications that safely and effectively alleviate the symptoms of opiate withdrawal.

When you begin treatment, you come in every day to receive your medication and, if needed, to meet with your counselor. As you progress through treatment, you may be eligible to receive medication to take home with you so that you do not need to come to treatment each day.

Our morning hours and take-home medication program are designed to help you continue to work, go to school, and care for your family on a day to day basis.

If you have additional questions, please see the Patient Information portion of our website, or contact Stepping Stone at 828-265-7078 or info@steppingstoneofboone.com.

OBB – Prescription based Suboxone

The goal of Stepping Stone’s Office-Based Buprenorphine (OBB) program is to provide you with services that will enable you to break the cycle of opiate withdrawal and intoxication so you can end the destructive patterns of opiate dependency.

We will prescribe you a stabilizing dosage of Suboxone,or Subutex.  Suboxone is a combination of Buprenorphine & Naloxone. Suboxone helps patients in two ways – the buprenorphine helps stop feelings of withdrawal and cravings to use, thus allowing the patient to feel stable and “normal,” while the Naloxone prevents misuse of the medication.  If you attempt to misuse your Suboxone medication the Naloxone contained in it will put you into withdrawal.

Subutex is the same medication without the added Nalozone.  During your assessment, our healthcare provider will discuss the options with you and make a recommendation on which medication would be best for your needs.

Both medications are safe and effective if used appropriately and in conjunction with our comprehensive addiction treatment program that includes medical monitoring and counseling services.

This prescription based program is designed to allow stable patients more autonomy as they progress through their recovery, while still having access to the full array of Stepping Stone and High Country Community Health’s integrated services.
